Multimodal Learning

From the latest blog on “Tech and Ed”, I have established that AI had been one of the top contenders for the 141 technological trends this past year. Likewise, I am seeing a trend in society where AI is pivoting the role of multi media for educational purposes. Augmented/Virtual Reality has been introduced to society as a turning point.

This past semester I had the experience to help build an interactive exhibit which had its own VR interaction.

Pictured you will see younger children interact with biological research. Dr.Clement, the professor that directed the research, had her own daughter interact with the exhibit. “You could see her eyes light up”, “I like to see the children get inspired by the work”. The inspiration or dare I say, motivation, is the key for most educators.

Most companies and institutions have caught on with the idea as Multimodal learning modes have been introduced over the past decade: phones, laptops, headsets.

The dialogue of technology being “distracting” is OVER. stop.saying.it.

Society has moved well past. In the next blog about AI in Society & The Unicorn will address the dangers of introducing these multimodal learning methods. The dangers derive from the capitalistic society which impedes on our educational systems and the digital divide.

Some forms of multi modal technologies that are used are: Phones Laptops, haptics; virtual reality; augmented reality; human–computer interaction; multimodal interaction; In Person; Hybrid Models
